INITIAL GROWTH CONDITIONS DEFINED FOR ISOPRENE-PRODUCING CYANOBACTERIA

ALFAFUELS has completed Milestone 1.5, delivering the first optimisation of growth conditions for engineered cyanobacterial strains designed to produce isoprene. This milestone establishes an initial operational window for cultivating high-performing strains, representing a key step towards stable and efficient biological production of jet fuel precursors from CO₂.

The outcome is important because growth conditions directly influence both productivity and robustness of engineered microorganisms. By identifying favourable cultivation parameters at this early stage, the project reduces technical uncertainty and builds a stronger foundation for subsequent scale-up and process integration activities within the ALFAFUELS biorefinery concept.

Beyond its immediate relevance, this milestone provides essential guidance for future experimental and pilot work. The insights gained will support further optimisation cycles and help align biological performance with downstream processing requirements, reinforcing ALFAFUELS’ long-term objective of developing scalable, climate-neutral aviation fuel pathways while protecting sensitive technical know-how.
