REACTOR SYSTEM DESIGN AND SAFETY DOCUMENTATION COMPLETED

ALFAFUELS has completed Milestone M12, establishing the design and safety basis for the laboratory-scale reactor systems that will support the conversion of biologically produced isoprene into liquid intermediates for sustainable aviation fuels. The milestone covers the main stages of the process, from the recovery of isoprene produced in the photobioreactor to its conversion and the subsequent collection of the resulting products.

The work has resulted in an integrated process concept supported by engineering documentation and a comprehensive safety review. Particular attention has been given to ensuring that the different process stages can operate together reliably, while incorporating appropriate measures for handling volatile compounds, pressure changes and laboratory operations. Sensitive technical specifications and detailed equipment configurations remain confidential within the consortium.

Completing this milestone provides ALFAFUELS with a solid foundation for the construction, commissioning and future operation of the reactor systems. It also marks an important advance in connecting the project’s biological production platform with the downstream technologies needed to transform renewable isoprene into higher-value molecules suitable for further upgrading towards jet-fuel-range hydrocarbons.
