ALFAFUELS Project Presented at the 12th European Workshop on the Biology of Cyanobacteria in Seville, Spain

The ALFAFUELS project was prominently featured at the 12th European Workshop on the Biology of Cyanobacteria, held in Seville from September 3rd to 6th, 2024. Kim Janssen from Uppsala University presented the project through a poster titled “Metabolic Engineering of Cyanobacteria for Sustainable Isoprene Production,” aligning with ALFAFUELS’ mission to advance Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) technology.

The project focuses on developing innovative solutions to reduce aviation’s reliance on fossil fuels by engineering cyanobacteria to produce isoprene, a key precursor for sustainable fuel. ALFAFUELS tackles challenges such as high production costs and sustainability issues, using breakthroughs like microbial fuel precursor production and solar-driven photochemistry.

Presenting ALFAFUELS at international events like this workshop enhances its visibility within the scientific community, fostering collaborations and knowledge exchange. This exposure can significantly boost the project’s impact and accelerate its progress toward achieving Technology Readiness Level 5, with novel bioreactors, pilot-scale trials, and industry partnerships driving the upscaling of its SAF technology.
