UPPSALA UNIVERSITY SHOWCASES THE ALFAFUELS PROJECT AT UPPSALA 2030 EVENT

On March 14, 2025, Associate Professor Pia Lindberg from Uppsala University presented the European project ALFAFUELS at the “Waste, Innovation, and Our Inventive Planet” event in Uppsala, Sweden. Her talk explored how the inventiveness of biological systems can drive sustainable innovation, with a focus on utilising photosynthetic microorganisms to produce jet fuel. She highlighted ALFAFUELS’ pioneering approach to generating sustainable jet fuels from CO₂ using micro-algal cell factories, all within a zero-waste framework.

The event gathered local business leaders engaged in sustainability, politicians, and representatives from local authorities. Lindberg’s presentation not only underscored the scientific and environmental relevance of the ALFAFUELS project, but also reinforced Uppsala University’s commitment to advancing bio-based solutions for a greener future.
