ALFAFUELS CONTRIBUTES TO STRATEGIC SAF DISCUSSION AT EUBCE 2025

On June 11, 2025, ALFAFUELS participated in the European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE) 2025, Europe’s foremost forum for scientific, industrial, and policy exchange on biomass, biocircularity, and the bioeconomy. As Europe navigates geopolitical, environmental, and economic challenges, the role of bio-based innovations in ensuring strategic autonomy has become increasingly vital. This year’s EUBCE featured a dedicated workshop that brought together key stakeholders in the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) value chain to examine future pathways and market dynamics.

Dusita de Hoop, Analyst at SkyNRG, delivered an insightful presentation during the workshop on the evolving outlook of the SAF market. Highlighting market forecasts, she underscored the projected “HEFA tipping point” post-2030, where demand for SAF is expected to surpass the global supply capacity of HEFA-based fuels. Even with the inclusion of lower sustainability feedstocks such as virgin oils and future alternatives like cover crops, HEFA production alone will be insufficient to meet rising SAF demand. This scenario reinforces the urgent need to diversify feedstock portfolios and accelerate the development of new SAF production routes.

The presentation spotlighted the relevance of ALFAFUELS in addressing this gap through innovative conversion pathways and underutilised feedstocks. As a project aimed at broadening the spectrum of viable SAF sources, ALFAFUELS offers a tangible solution to future supply bottlenecks. The workshop also featured contributions from Simona Alpi, representing the related Horizon Europe project COCPIT, further underlining the collaborative efforts underway to ensure the future sustainability and scalability of SAF across Europe.
