ALFAFUELS AT THE ICARUS FINAL CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUELS
On 25 September 2026, the ICARUS project held its Final Conference at Comet Louise in Brussels. The event brought together researchers, industry representatives and policymakers active in the field of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). ICARUS has developed solutions to scale up three routes for producing SAF from biomass, and the conference was a chance to present its main results to the wider community.
ICARUS and ALFAFUELS are both part of the SUSTAFUELS cluster, a group of European projects working towards cleaner fuels for aviation. Through this cluster, the two projects have already carried out joint activities to share knowledge, align efforts and increase the impact of their research.
ALFAFUELS partners attended the conference online to follow ICARUS’s results closely. The programme covered new ways to secure sustainable biomass, advances in fuel production technologies, and the environmental impacts, costs, policies and markets that will shape the future of SAF. External voices from industry and airport regions also shared their views on the role these fuels will play.
ALFAFUELS congratulates the ICARUS team on the successful completion of the project and looks forward to continuing the collaboration within the SUSTAFUELS cluster to help make aviation more sustainable.
